Our New Home The #1920sheightsbungalow

This day felt like it wouldn't come, but...I would like to formally introduce y'all to our newest home the #1920sheightsbungalow

Before I get into all the details let me first go into a bit about why we chose this property. Like we did with our wedding, we came up with the top three things that mattered to us when looking for a new home. Number 1 and 2 were held to the same importance for us since we didn't want to be uprooted again due to flooding issues.

  1. Education
  2. Location and that did not flood
  3. Room to grow
Number 1 - Education
Being parents now mean that we can't just think of ourselves and have to put the needs of our child first. Education is very important to both my husband and I. Websites through HAR and Texas School Guide has been a huge help in determining how schools are rated and how they rank against other schools in Texas. Our house is zoned to a very high ranking school, an elementary school that is even ranked in the top 65 in  all  Texas elementary schools.

Number 2 - Location, Location, Location!!!!
When Amos and I each moved back to Houston (well over 10 years ago) we have always lived in the loop, an area we hold dear to our hearts, and rarely leave unless to hangout with our greatest friends (ha I joke we are not that bad). We value our time and don't want to sacrifice family time with times spent on the road so being in the loop is desirable for us. Like mentioned, in this post, you can read other reasons why we enjoy being so central.

The Heights is called the heights because it is higher in elevation than most areas in Houston so this means that there was no flooding during Harvey, another big draw for us to this location.

We took all of our engagement photos in the heights and downtown; both areas that mean a lot to us. This is a dream location for me and I love, love, this area!

The loft was located in downtown (zone 6), the prince house and #thebachelorpadfixerupper located in zone 10 right next to our new neighborhood The Heights (zone 8).
This description of the Heights is perfect and combines my love of a small-town feel with all the big city amenities.

"Ranked #4 in CNN Money’s Top 10 Big City Neighborhoods, The Heights offers charm and a small-town feel; along with a fantastic collection of restaurants, coffee bars, antique shops, parks, and running trails."

Number 3 - Room to Grow & All the Home Details!
Our bungalow has 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths situated on a beautiful double corner lot surrounded by gorgeous trees. While it is smaller in square footage than the Prince House it is bigger than #thebachelorfixerupper. Most 1920's bungalows in this area are roughly between 800-900 square feet, with two bedrooms and one bath, but like the Prince House there was an additional made a some point that doubled the size of our 1920's bungalow. This gives us plenty of room to grow our family...in time. As of now I plan to make one room my office, one a guest room, and the larger two rooms with vaulted ceilings will be Harrison's room and the master.

As I am sure you all can guess I am sooooo excited to start a new design and decorating challenge with this house. One of the most exciting areas I am thrilled to decorate is the adorable wrap around front porch. We will be adding a porch swing, white rocking chairs, and some beautiful potted plants. Here are some of my current inspiration photos for this space.

Gal Meets Glam added a variety of pots with seasonal plants anchored by evergreens to her newly renovated front porch.

Oh and I can't wait unit Fall!!!!

Our front porch is feeling festive 🍁🎃🍂 Happy to have a weekend at home so we can do all the seasonal things we’ve been waiting to do since our renovation was complete! #frontporchdecor #falldecor #myfrontporch #southernliving #countryliving #fallseason

Also y'all know I'm a dreamer and not saying this would happen and if it did it would be many years down the road, but I would love to build something maybe like this one day on the lot (Ideally I would like to move the 1920's bungalow on a piece of land and hour or so outside of the city for as a weekend/vacation home, there has been several older houses transferred off of their existing lots in our neighborhood). Our street is lined with new construction with majority of the houses having a "New Orleans" style design so it would be nice to have the same flow. I love that style anyways and these porches are amazing!!!!

This plan plan is full of Southern charm that immediately brings Charleston or Savannah to mind. With a narrow shape and rear access garage, this plan is perfect for a city or town location. A columned wrap-around upper and lower verandah flanks the left

Or something like this, but on a smaller scale, which has been my favorite style since I was young. This was a snapshot taken on HAR from a Heights listing awhile back.

Another potential option would be to add on to the existing house and do a facelift and add another level something like this...

Stayed tuned for more updates....
